How to: get custom printed bags

Wanting that little bit of extra marketing?

Many of you have asked about our custom bags and what you can do to get them. We can offer custom bags in any dimension, thickness and design. Whether it may be courier bags, retail bags or ones for a specific event, we can help.

You do not need to be a technical expert when it comes to packaging (we handle that part) but here are some thoughts to get you started:

  • the size and design (front and back)
  • a forecast of your usage of bags
  • the material you want from our range

There is a minimum quantity required for the bags and this is dependent on the size of the bag you decide.

We are always ready to listen and help so do contact us via our 0800 113 206 number or email sales@r3pack.co.nz

All of our inquiries are handled with confidentiality.

Recycled Bags Compostable Bags Paper Bags
Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ)

Recycled Courier bags are manufactured from post-consumer recycled plastics. Like our other bags, printing is done prior to heat-sealing etc, so the MOQ is substantial. Indicative MOQ is:

DLE: 80,000 units

A5: 40,000 units

A4: 30,000 units

FS: 25,000 units

LF: 20,000 units

Compostable bags are manufactured in northern China (where most cornstarch material is made), and the factories require approx. 1000kg per bag size to achieve a minimum level of efficiency. Indicatively that means the MOQ is:

DLE: 160,000 units

A5: 100,000 units

A4: 60,000 units

FS: 50,000 units

LF: 30,000 units

Like both Recycled and Compostable courier bags, we print the bags prior to cutting/folding/glueing etc. This means there is again substantial MOQ:

DLE: 40,000 units

A5: 30,000 units

A4: 20,000 units

FS: 18,000 units

What size? We can manufacture a bag up to 750x1000mm We can manufacture up to 750mm x 750mm square Paper could technically be manufactured up to 500mm, however we have found it very cost-prohibitive to go above your FS bag at 280x380mm
Bag colours / material colours

Material made from recycled plastics is white-cream and motley coloured with many imperfections. Its for this reason our grey recycled bags are a printed a dark colour - to hide many of the odd colours etc.

Due to these imperctions and changes in the material, it is difficult to get exact pantone match to corporate colours, however we have had great results in greys through to black, dark blues, and even dark greens.

A corn-starch based single layer white bag would be fairly transparent, so we have spent much time investigating white (dual or triple layer) compostable material. The result is that we just cannot yet confidently supply a compostable white outer material bag for one key reason: the multi-layer resins do not heat seal/merge as well when compared to single layer materials – resulting in considerably weaker seams. So, picking a black or very dark colour single layer bag is both affordable and non-transparent.

Kraft paper is naturally a mid-brown colour only. It can be coloured or bleached, however we do not recommend either as it reduces the awareness of the natural sustainability of the product.
Print colours

Printing on matte dark bags means colours can be muted compared to print on white/glossy materials. We can print up to 3 colours on the front, and 1 colour on the back. Like any process-printing, each plate (for each colour) has a cost.

We strongly recommend printing only block/spot colours, with no shading in the artwork, and a single colour artwork.

Printing on kraft paper is best suited to block colours (no shading) and expect to lose some colour brightness due to the absorption of the materials. We have ad great success in printing black, white, and even some bright spot colours. Like any process printing, each plate (one for each colour) has a cost.
Shelflife

Recycled plastic courierbags are capable of being stored in a cool and dry environment for many years.

Compostable plastics have around a 9-12mo shelf life before their seams start to weaken. In hot or humid environements, that may be less

Timeframe

From signed off artwork, we operate on a timeframe of 8-12 weeks. That includes 4-6week lead time to production, and then 4 weeks sea freight to NZ. That could be shortened with airfreight (considerable cost), or longer if shipping and freight delays continue to affect the world economy.
